Helena has been busy choreographing a little dance for you to practice and demonstrate at our first meetings for the show. She was worried the moves came too easy for her and was convinced she'd done it before- but no! She's just great at choreography!
We're hoping you join us at our first meeting next week (Wednesday 17th May) at 7.15pm to find out what it's all about!
After 26 years of amazing dedication, the Bethel Crowd’s dame Will (the plumber) Taylor is hanging up his dress. During his career with the society, Will has been sent to Mars, blown up a variety of ovens and scared off an infinite number of ghosts. This January’s production of Puss in Boots was his final performance on the Bethel’s stage as the dame.
Will Taylor is local to Westhoughton but can be seen fitting and fixing bathrooms all around Bolton. His years as a full time plumber and part time dame have, unfortunately, taken their toll on him. Mr Taylor says, ‘I’ve enjoyed every minute of being on the stage but I can’t handle it with my plumbers knees anymore.’
Over the years Will has brought much laughter to audiences of all ages. He brought so much personality to his performances that there wasn’t always space on the stage for the rest of the actors. After 26 years, Will finally got the hang of spotting when he was being stitched up. This skill would have saved him trying to reassem...
Is a phrase that is often associated with the gripping storylines of your favourite soap opera -if you have time to watch them that is! Here at the Bethel we’re so busy we don’t have the time (boo hiss!).
Helena and I are currently working on/planning 3 of the shows for this season including Cinderella & Rockerfella and our musical revue- You can’t stop the beat. Just before those though we have just enough time to squeeze in the Bethel’s mystery tale; Mutiny and Murder (written by one of our own- Tom Hewat).
We’ve just completed auditions for the junior production and Helena has been working hard choreographing the dances, whilst I have been assisting Ben in the directors seat/pressing play when needed (it’s hard work-honest!). Once those rehearsals have finished we have been zipping over to the murder mystery rehearsals and working on that.
We are currently rehearsing our questioning and interviews but we think the most important question of all is: “what do I wear?!”
We are thrilled to announce the audition dates for our September Musical 'Little Shop of Horrors'

I'm taking this opportunity, while Helena is teaching a few dances, to give you all some insight into our brand new Youth Production of Wind in the Willows.
You know, it's always daunting starting a new show, particularly when it comes so close to the end of the last but we must be doing something right this time. Every rehearsal the parents are coming in earlier and earlier to take a sneaky peek at our show. They have given some fantastic feedback and we're looking forward to improving in the months ahead.
It has been a real treat to have such a large cast for this show (27), although I'm pretty sure the costume department are sweating and stage crew are considering building an extension to the stage in order to accomodate them all.
The large cast is something which is all Emma's (director -Little Shop of Horrors) fault for challenging me to create a show where all the cast remained on stage at all times. Obviously I accepted (should've made a bet on it first) and now Helena...
We are currently preparing for the Bethel Crowd's annual murder mystery evening, which this year is Directing Dilemma, and will take place on Saturday 9th April. Jason Taylor is directing, and has the task of making sure that the cast are prepared to face questioning from the audience. As usual, it has been a lot of fun so far, and we are all looking forward to putting on a fun night for the community. Our performance starts at 7:15pm, and the £5 ticket price includes a supper. We hope you'll all come along and try and work out whodunnit.
All the dance numbers are set, the costumes are ready and the car, 'Greased Lightnin', is almost finished. We are at the point in rehearsals where we do a full run of the show, the cast are asked put down their scripts and everyon'es hard work will finally start to pay off as we see the show coming together. The rehearsal period has been so much fun, we've laughed and danced and had a few injuries along the way.
Now the pressure is really on as we aim to entertain our audiences with one of the most popular musicals of all time.
For our cast and crew at this point Grease really is the word.
Don't forget you still have time to grab your tickets from:
I am very excited to officially announce our September production will be "Grease".
Including official movie songs:
"Hopelessly Devoted To You"
"You're The One That I Want"
The production is for anyone ages 14 and over.
If you would like to be involved you can contact us via our facebook page or the contact us section of this website.
I am very excited to be directing this show, previously with the society I directed "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". "Grease" is one of my personal favourite musicals and I relish the opportunity to share my enthusiasm for the show with all those who wish to get involved.
There are worse things I could do, than put on a show or two.
I look forward to seeing you all at our intial meeting, please spread the word.
